Each type of flooring comes with it’s own signs of damage. Any amount of water is a threat to laminate floors including wear and tear that could indicate an update is needed. Keeping it out of areas that are going to receive more water than others is a good idea. Water can cause the flooring to break down and detach, causing it to permanently buckle. In this case, high amounts of water could cause your whole floor to be replaced due to the damage. Small amounts of water can also be damaging as it seeps through the cracks in the flooring.

  • Do not use steam cleaners. The heat and moisture will affect the glued layers and result in water damage over time.
  • Do not soak the floors with a drippy mop.
  • Bristle brooms have a tendency to leave behind particles that can contribute to surface wear; it’s best to stick with a soft microfiber dry mop.
  • Avoid products that promote a shine. The waxy buildup can be difficult to remove.
  • Do not use wood cleansers, like Murphy Oil Soap. It will leave residue on the surface and look streaky.
