One of the most coveted parts of any dance studio is the flooring. So much thought, time, and money goes into selecting the floor that will provide the best surface for the dancers to practice and perform. Although dance floors are typically designed to be durable and low maintenance, it is important to understand what is required for cleaning dance studio flooring. The method and supplies used to clean the flooring will depend on the specific type of dance floor, and how well you clean and care for your floor will impact how long it will last.

Here are some tips for cleaning dance studio flooring:
- Sweeping or vacuuming: First, regular sweeping or vacuuming is important to remove dirt, debris, and grit from the floor that can damage the flooring over time. Use a vacuum with brushes or floor attachment designed for bare floors. Sweeping with a dust mop or broom works too, but be sure to get into corners and along edges.
- Mopping: Then, for deeper cleaning, mopping the floor is necessary. Use a mop or floor cleaning machine and a cleaner designed for the specific floor type. For wood floors, use a hardwood floor cleaner and damp mop. For vinyl , use a multi-surface floor cleaner and mop or floor machine. Do not soak the floor with water which can damage some flooring.
- Spot cleaning: In addition, for spills or spots, wipe them up immediately with a damp cloth or paper towel. Use a cleaner for your floor type on any stubborn spots or residue. Remove scuff marks from shoes using a pencil eraser, rubber heel mark remover, or scrub brush.
- Periodic deep cleaning: Furthermore, have professional floor cleaners strip, wax, and buff the floor periodically (once a month or every few months depending on use) to keep flooring in good shape and prevent buildup. The heavy-duty equipment and chemicals can get floors much cleaner than mopping alone.
- Protect flooring: Finally, place protective pads under furniture to prevent scratches. Use floor mats at entrances to prevent dirt and grit from getting on the floor. Avoid walking on the floor with high heels which can dent and scratch some flooring types.
